Overview on Back Pain
Hi ! My name is Laura. I have been a physical therapist for over 13 years.
After 13 years, what I can tell you is this: the most important thing I can give people is knowledge. And that is the purpose of this website – to educate you on subjects that are my expertise.
Low back pain is a very common complaint. 90-95% of the population will have low back pain at least once in their lives!
Personally, I can tell you that 50% of the patients in most outpatient physical therapist come in to seek pain relief due to low back complaints. That is a lot of men, women, and children with pain in their backs!
Most back pain can be lessened by doing specific movements, strengthening particular muscles (what we refer to as “the core”) and avoiding certain positions or prolonged activities. You just have to learn how this applies to you!
I'll cover several common conditions such as Degenerative Disc Disease, Herniated Disc, Muscle Strains, Osteoporosis, Sacroiliac Pain, Sciatica, Scoliosis, Spondylolisthesis, Stenosis, Pregnancy, Arthritis, and Chronic Pain. We'll go over definitions, symptoms, frequently asked questions that I get, and exercises to relieve.
This website is not meant to take the place of treatment by a physical therapist or a doctor. It is designed to give you information that is easy to understand so that you can make better decisions regarding your physical problems.
Pain can restrict your lifestyle in ways that really lower your quality of life. I hope that you find the information contained in this website helpful in returning to your favorite activities and managing your pain better.
